There was a two part episode on the first Star Trek series called the Menagerie/The Cage. The Telosians captured Captain Pike seeking to have him breed with their captive Veria. At the conclusion of the episode the Telosians learned that Humans would choose death over slavery as they-humans totally rejected tyranny and would be extremally violent in the response in rejecting tyrannical slavery even when benevolent, it's encoded in our DNA.
